This game has something going for it, it’s just hidden in a sea of unreadiness. It’s extremely raw, and fast. Probably TOO fast, it’s Sonic The Hedgehog on Sonic Adventure fast. The gunplay and melee needs a lot more ‘weightiness’ to it: Nelo is obviously a badass but if that’s the case then his blows would feel much heavier. Sound is sparse, there are sound efffects missing which only add to the feeling that the whole thing is too lightweight. I would sacrifice some of that speed for power and weight.
The camera needs a lot of work too, partly because of the extreme speed, but in tight places there are all kinds of problems, feels like an N64 game in that regard, but only at certain times. Rest of the time it’s absolutely fine.
Graphics are basically very good, check out the gameplay video. The game seems very well optimsed indeed, runs very smoothly. I imagine a potato could play this game and still have it looking nice. But the visuals need more. More what? I’m not sure, exactly. Just more…something. More ‘Ooomph’. Looks rather bland. There’s a definte sort of Crysis 3 sheen in the visuals, but at the same time they’re just not quite there yet. The basics are great, just need more bling.
Gameplay is Devil May Cry meets Sonic Adventure meets Warframe. ‘Nuff said.
I just appeared to shit on this game from a great height, if I read what I just wrote as one of you, I’d say “this game sounds like a piece of junk”. It’s not, it’s just an extremely raw, unready game that has some potential. Download it, it will pass an hour and I think with enough polish this game could rise above the usual shitware that PC gamers get to enjoy. At the end of it, you’ll probably say “hmmm, it’s not awful…I’ll come back to this in 18 months”.
