If you want LGBT+ people to know they have your support, you have to be loud and public about it. I made the mistake of thinking that just being a good friend would be enough, and I inadvertently caused more harm than I realized. Friends and family had unnecessarily difficult coming out experiences, all because I didn’t think of myself as an activist, and expected them to just assume I was a safe person to talk to.
