SOLUTION TO CANNOT CREATE LOG FILE: Just delete the se.log file above the SpaceEngine.exe and run it again.
I tried this about 2-3 years ago before i got into other space sim games, and while this is a pure simulation of the universe (physics, mechanics, cartography) and it has almost no game characteristics or features (just a cold, raw, procedurally generated simulation of the universe. that is all), i still managed to enjoy it quite a lot.
I also seem to remember it being FREE. Did that change recently or what? If no, then what exactly is this? Shouldn’t this site be just about cracking games and releasing them to ppl who “wish to try the product before purchasing” ?
The directory and files have a read only property. change it and solved.
Did a bit of research (after the fact, like an idiot). Apparently all versions up to and including 0.980 are free, but version 0.990 is available on steam for 15 euro. I was confused by this at first because “WHY?!”, but then i then i glossed over the approximately 300 lines of new implementations an fixes and i can only say… Dear GOD…
Firstly, they added 64bit functionality witch is awesome (one of the main issue with prev versions was that textures took significantly long times to load or they just loaded at low rez. also if you tried to wrestle a globular galaxy, your graphics card would usually loose the battle 😀 ). Then they added VR functionality witch is truly awesome. They also fixed a lot of the major bugs and issues that persisted from the previous versions and added a ton of UI improvements and stuff.
I can honestly say this is now on par with Universe Sandbox. I may be wrong given the fact that some of the features from that game are missing from Space Engine (just have to look on youtube for videos about Universe Sanbox. 90% of them are about destroying star systems/planets/the erf. witch is not possible in this simulation) but to each his own i guess. I still like this one better.
1 – missing file OpenAl32.dll
2 – I downloaded on the internet the file and insert the file and now error appears 0xc000007b
3- Any solution to the problem?

when I hit the “space engine.exe” it says,
System Error-
The code execution cannot proceed because OpenAL32.dll was not found, reinstalling may fix the problem.
Any ideas as how to get this running? I have windows 10, and my pc is DEFINITELY powerful enough to run any of the games on this site, so that’s not the issue, thanks, i see u help people here all the time, Skidrow should be payin ya!! lol. Thanks man.

IT DOESN’T WORK, DONT WASTE UR TIME TIL A FIX IS OUT, FIRST IT GIVES AN OPENAL32.DLL, AND IF U DOWNLOAD THAT FILE, AND PUT IT IN, THEN U GET ANOTHER ERROR THAT SAYS ERROR 0xc000007b.
To fix error 0xc000007b you have to download installer from openAL website, it will give you the right OpenAL32.dll
i confirm you have to update your OpenAL32.dll… Its working After

@Septimus thank you for your views on this game! It would be great if there was a DLC pack or mod that would expand the game into what NASA really knows is out there!!!
Some of the galaxies are (and were even 3 years back when i played it) up to date and accurate to real live star charts. You can visit ic 1101, the Bootes Void, even the Great Attractor i think. But the rest is procedurally generated, no other way around this.
Still, this is the only sim i know of that lets you speed up to gigaparsecs/s (1 GP=3.2 bil Ly) and have galaxies zip around you like bullets. It’s still a work in progress, but the potential is limitless. One thing’s for sure, it will definitely get a full release long before starcitizen. Soon-ish rather than Soon™.

No, that’s not correct.
Space is not real. Space is unscientific. NASA produces CGI, not actual photos. Space does not exist. Earth is flat and stationary and there is far more going on than you realize.
Things like this just enjoy the wild fantasy cooked up by folks that wish space existed. Enjoy your fantasy.

You need to stop believing everything you hear or information you read. Only to ignorantly take it as the truth. You do know others heard or read information just like you . But the fact remains that others, including myself, have flown high enough and saw the horizon curve. Do you even own a telescope? So you are telling me that NASA can cover the entire earth (flat or round) and fabricate space, so the round/spherical planets and moon I am seeing through my telescope are fake? Who is the one living in a fantasy. This come like in my field of work “medicine”, a lot of patients read or heard the most stupidest things and take it as the truth. Don’t just read or believe everything you hear without trying to test/experience it yourself. It amazes me of the many ignorance of humans in 2020.
This is a great game/simulation.
