Great fun looking game . But only 1 stage available in this early acess . I will wait spring 2020 for the release of the full game . Not that long to wait .

Now even 2d 16 bit side-scrollers have early access phase. Just… wow.

But what’s truly amazing is that on average, it takes about a month or so to develop one of these from scratch. Witch means that the open beta should be available by the end of the week. Then the full release 3 days later and after that the DLC shitshow for about year after release. And after that, a sequel, probably a year and a half later (depending on just how much cash the DLC shitshow made up to that point).

The gaming industry truly reached the peak of amazingness these days. Also, don’t be alarmed by the 40 euro magazine bundle that comes with an unfinished (barely an alpha at this point) game or the fact that you probably never heard of the publisher or the developer before. I’m sure it’s totally fine. Nothing suspicious about this at all…

Clearly you have not done any research, not that much is required here…

First of this game is being developed by just a small Doujin Circle. A Doujin Circle pretty much like an Indie development team, though from Japan, where Indie/Doujin is flourishing way before it was a niche here in the West.

Now being part of a Doujin Circle isn’t a full time job. It’s what people do in their free time as a hobby. As Japan has 5-6 work days a week and often roughly 8-12 hours per day including the after-work social activities which are mandatory.

Secondly, just looking at a few images of this game and the Steam page… I can tell the pixel art is of high quality and that’s something often underestimated. The gameplay also looks smooth and not clunky as many Indie, but also tripple A, games feel like these days.

And last the game is being co-developed and published by Playism which has quite a library of Doujin games out there already and most of them have been received pretty positively. Just because you haven’t heard of the developer, doesn’t mean others haven’t.

Anyway I doubt you’ll ever come back to read this after your unbased post but perhaps other people that read this can learn something. =)

No one is arguing that games take a lot of work, nor is anyone arguing that a small team needs more time to do so, especially if they are part time developers.

What everyone is pissed about is companies in the industry selling us half-finished products to see if enough people are interested in paying them to finish the game. Gone are the days where companies took a risk on something they believed in. It’s why every large company just keeps pumping out the same game over and over. Why risk on unique?

Then if not enough people buy the early access version, then the game itself might end up cancelled. Then what happens to those that did buy the early access? They lose their money. oh well! Better off screwing over the loyal customers since they’re most likely to forgive you right?

Sure, early access has helped some companies bring their games to high quality (subnautica, deep rock galactic, crosscode to name a few), but ther are wayyyyy more companies exploiting the situation and just giving up on the game once they’ve already spent the hype from the early access release.

Personally i wont ever buy another early access game, and more often than not, if a game is in early access, i forget about it completely and by the time it actually does get released, the concept of the game will already be stale in my mind (no FOMO).

I usually stray away from early access games specifically because a company that engagees in the practices, is also much more likely to “full release” their game in an attempt to build hype on their dying game, rather than there being any specific upgrades that actually make it a full release.

okay i better stop, ive been rambling for like 5 minutes straight.

My point is, early access is shit, and anyone who supports it, is part of the problem. It causes way more problems than it solves by far.

@AtSeptimusRaven I ALWAYS come back after a while to read the comments and stuff. Always.

And i get why you’re comment seemingly defends the developer’s position. Because someone has to, right? It could very well be the case that they’re a bunch of decent chaps just getting their basics in gaming and they’ve elected to also make a little cash on the side by releasing some product and also working to perfect said product and improving upon quality and content over time. This could very well be the case.

But that’s not to say that the product in question is barebone, simplistic and… ffs it’s a 16 bit sidescroller… Let’s be real, i’ve seen mobile games, made by 3 developer teams you’ve Definitely never heard of, for the exclusive purposes of profit but with more effort put into them than… whatever this is…

The fact that they didn’t even bother to finish it before already trying to cash in should raise quite alot of alarm flags. The situation might’ve been somewhat improved if the product in question would’ve presented itself in a more detailed and comprehensive manner, bringing the game up to speed with current graphics technology but nooo… Yes, the animations seem fluid and detailed, but who knows where the hell they managed to copy them from. The art, whilst pixel art, witch methinks “blehh”; but ultimately appears to be very detailed layout for this kind of project, it’s also probably ripped off from an anime or something (probably the one with the fox deity that cooks for and ‘dotes’ upon the salary-man guy… i forgot the name but the fox deity loli looks very much like one of the pictures in this game). Also it’s quite fair to mention that pixel art and sidescroller games were considered “old” even in the 80’s, during the end-of-life transition from arcade games to closer to modern console ones (post commodore 64- pre nintendo 64 console systems). This translates (at least to me) to the fact that they just wanted “something” to sell, they didn’t really try to actually make any significant investment into actually making a modern game. 16 bit sidescroller, so long as it sells… who cares, right?

To summarize, at least to my eyes, this looks nothing short of a ‘minimal effort – maximum profit’ cash grab, wherein they input the minimum amount of effort and expect maximum profit for their trouble. And if you said they’re a Doujinshi club, betcha they also have plans to sell underwear clad overpriced figurines of the main heroine, if they don’t have that already. Also, probably to maximize profits even more, they packed together a bunch of other games they’ve also made (similar quality and effort as this) and are selling them in a package worth your average AA game. Because why not?

Therefore, defending a developer that chooses to sell an unfinished, poorly presented, way behind the technology curb product and expects to be payed a considerable fraction of the cost of a modern product that took time and effort to develop, moreover making sure to follow every trick in the book when it comes to maximizing profits… i imagine you don’t usually bother for just any rando very few ppl know or even care about. Witch leads me to believe you know them. Amirite?
