Guys this game is very weird, even if it’s DRMFREE, looks like there is few check by game devs (not sure), first time i start it works great, when i tried to play it again, game stuck in loading, then i tried just stupid thing but game works great,
Try change your game folder from “Darkest.Dungeon.2.Early.Access” to “Darkest Dungeon 2” without “”.

Hello i have different problem tested on RTX 3050 TiI 16 GB Ram laptop with Intel Core i7 11800H Tiger Lake and literally every move between fights feels like 5 fps gameplay …When i borrow Epic account from friend and install legit all was fine …any idea whats the problem thx for help guys 🙂

Folder name didn’t fix it for me. I am also a Win 7 user but still getting the black screen. Any help would be appreciated.
The balance is bs. My team deals like 1 or 2 damage while the enemy deals 8+. Also when stress is maxed you lose like 90% of hp. You cant use health items (like food) until you reach the end of the current map. Not to mention when you do something one member of the team will suddenly lose relationship points with someone else. Need a lot of balancing.
The most bs thing is the 5 rounds limit.

I was stuck at the same black screen as you guys. Possible fix that worked for me:
FIX: Go to Nvidia Control Panel>Program Settings>Browse for game’s exe>Disable Vsync

Steven’s fix worked for me it seems. I changed the folder name to Darkest Dungeon 2 and never got stuck at the initial loading screen. Great game as usual, much of the same as the first but with the addition of the cart, different UIs and vastly improved animations.

Doesn’t work for me. Tried all ideas above. BTW just checked and there is a voucher on Epic store for 10 e/Ł/$ if you subscribe to epic’s newsletter. You can use that to buy DD2 if you want or for anything else.
it seems there are other causes that make the game getting stuck in the beginning apart from the folder name.

My problem is different and weird lol. I can select all heroes but man at arms. Cant build my team and start the game. Really weird.

It seems half of the players can’t play the game. This issue is being adressed on Discord by the devs also.
There are several gamebreaking bugs found as it is now. Some people guy stuck midway their playthrough, others can’t choose a unit and the rest cant get past the black screen or the loading screen that comes after that.
My advise is be patient and wait for the upcoming fix/patch since the devs are hard at work there. Check out their discord for more “solutions” and have a good day.
I managed to make it work, as someone mentioned above, first change the name of the folder to Darkest Dungeon 2 and if it still doesnt work move the folder to C in a folder like Games which you usually have and make a shortcut from there.
This game is seriously much worse than the first Darkest Dungeon. The road travel is mostly boring and there isn’t any point in doing. IN the first game you had options to find treeasures, curios and traps, here the road is just a waste of time between the battles since you can’t go back or go around optional battles. The relationship points is bullshit, its so random, that in that same road between 2 inns i had plague doctor and highwayman become romantic and then hatefull between 4 battles, it doesnt look like anything can prevent bad points, and trying to fix it in the inn using objects almost does nothing, the objects are limites and do between 0-1 points of improvement. Overall game is boring and unbalanced in comparison to first game. You also have almost zero strategy since you have limited heroes, can’t use same heroes and a the begining all but 4 are locked. Same with skill, you start with bunch but can only unlock more with story shrines which takes forever. Very shitty game and waste of the epic narrator
The game for some reason has problem with dots in it’s path, so if Steven’s fix doesn’t work for you try checking the full path to game for any dots, if there are then you need to move the folder to somewhere else, this worked for me personaly
@Red It’s funny to hear someone complain about RNG in this while the first one is known for its RNG bullshit. Yes, the relationship points are RNG just like everything else but if you can keep stress down it keeps everybody happy with each other for the most part Man-at-arms’ Bolster has stress reduction when upgraded, and so does the Plague Doctors Ounce of Prevention. I agree the game needs some more balancing, but it’s not through the relationship system. Skills don’t take long at all to unlock Shrines of Reflection are fairly common, and with a good couple runs you can unlock characters pretty quick.
Steven was 100% right… Change the main folder to Darkest Dungeon 2… I imagine changing it to anything else will work. Finally loaded
steven’s solution was worked but after reset the computer the same issue occured and cant be fixed anymore anyways i didnt like it at all dd1 was way better

For anyone who had the game working with the folder change, but later softlocked and had to restart, causing the infinite loading screen again regardless of folder name, deleting the RedHook folder in Users/your_name/AppData/RedHook fixed it for me. Make a backup though as this will delete your saves.
just put rename the folder to not have dots and then drag folder to desktop, opening from there worked
